Retiring President Liz Messer paid a visit to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital with husband Ian to present a cheque to the Stroke Unit Support Trust and Information Network. In her Presidential year a total of £2074 was raised for the charity. This charity buys equipment and items that the NHS does not pay for and which are required for the benefit of patients. The photo shows Ian, a current patient, Kim Abbot from the unit and Liz Messer.
National Finals
Southbourne were well represented in the National Finals.
In the Men's Fours - Brian Jones, Forrest Thomson, Graham White and Dean Hopkins (pictured left) reached Worthing by finishing runners-up to Aldershot Traction in the County Finals. They were defeated by a strong Lancashire four in the last 32.
Chris Dowding reached the Over 55 Singles National Finals where he lost to Philip Sutcliffe of Middlesex.
At Leamington in the Champion of Champions, Sue Dadson lost to current International Lynne Bowen, the eventual winner.
County
On the last day of the Champion of Champions competition held at Banister Park on 27/5/11 there were three rounds, Quarter, Semi and Final. Sue Dadson won the lot to become County Champion of Champions.
In the Thornberry Trophy the ladies of Southbourne lost in the semi-final.

Bournemouth & District
In the Ladies Leagues Southbourne had a very successful year. The first team finished top of Division A, the second team finished 3rd in Div C and the third team finished 2nd (and are therfore promoted) in Div E.

Brian Jones (pictured with B & D President Barry Zabell) reversed last year's result in the Singles Competition by beating Alan Geary 21-10.
Martin Sheppard put up a good fight but lost to Ray Smith in the final of the Officer's Cup. Ray has won the competition for five years running.
Bournemouth Evening Triples
2011 saw a repeat of last year with Southbourne once again Champions of Section 1.
The final of the Knock-out competition saw Southbourne's 1st and 2nd teams playing each other. The 2nd team, Southbourne A, came out on top.

Fordingbridge Jubilee Singles

Our Captain Brian Jones was triumphant in this event and took a few big scalps in the process. He won all three games in his group to qualify for the Quarter-final where he beat Nicky Jones by one shot. In the semi-final he accounted for Nick Revell of Alderbury and in the final beat Peter Ward to become the first Southbourne member to win the cup since its inauguration in 1977.
